Mental Health First Aid training

On the 1st of October our Business Manager Sarah Thomas undertook a two day course to gain her Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training.

This qualification is a nationally recognised Mental Health First Aid course that empowers and provides employees with the tools to be able to support their colleagues when mental health issues arise.

At Acuity we have have adopted a culture that prioritises mental health and wellbeing and a working environment where all employees can thrive. The wellbeing of our team is so important to us, we already offer an Employee Assistance Programme that can be used for any issue, professional or personal, with a 24/7 helpline offering confidential support, information, counselling and advice and have also signed up the the Mental Health at Work Commitment. We feel that the addition of a Mental Health First Aider in the business will bolster our offering and ensure we are doing all we can to aid the positive mental health of our team and be best positioned to support them in inevitable moments where mental health issues arise.

Becoming a Mental Health First Aider will enable Sarah to recognise, understand, and assist the team when needed, identifying the early stages of mental health issues and warning signs, as well as earning practical skills on how to deal with difficult mental wellbeing situations, providing support in the correct way whilst keeping individuals safe. She will be able to provide in-house support and also signpost colleagues towards relevant external professional support and resources.

Having a work culture that is open and honest about mental health by providing Mental Health First Aiders will continue to break the stigma surrounding mental health and is something we feel is vital to advocate for at Acuity to best support our colleagues and help our business grow and flourish.
